As the ski and winter sports season quickly approaches, numerous Colorado ski towns and resort communities have opened their arms to the recreational marijuana boom.
Recreational sales of marijuana will be legal in January of 2013.
Resort communities in Aspen, Breckenridge, Crested Butte, Steamboat Springs and Telluride have all voted to allow sales to occur, with reports coming in of tourists already inquiring and interested in the opportunity to enhance their vacations.
Despite the enthusiasm of resort/business owners and customers alike, resort communities report that there will still be measures to ensure public safety and accordance with the law.
Public consumption of marijuana is still very much illegal, so marijuana use will be encouraged inside cabins and other private or established areas.
Smell the Truth recently spoke with Olympic snowboarding gold medalist Ross Rebagliati, founder of a dispensary in Whistler, B.C., who said marijuana can be an enjoyable part of winter sports, so long as - just like alcohol - you stay within your limits. "A little puff skiing or riding your bike - it's one hundred percent fine," he said. "Weed is healthier than alcohol."
