Denver leaders are backing away from a plan to re-criminalize smoking some pot in one's own back yard. Just don't wave your bag of weed around a park, or anything. Denver Post reports:
The new draft of the ordinance eliminates the reference to smell as constituting "open and public consumption," leaving odor complaints to Environmental Health inspectors. The draft that still must be approved by the City Council would allow marijuana "possession" but would ban "display and distribution" in parks and throughout central downtown, expanding the area from just the 16th Street Mall. ... The draft that still must be approved by the City Council.
Issues of marijuana odor are vexing municipalities across the country who seek to balance individual rights against community ire over odor from pot cultivation and smoking.
