Welcome to Best Weekend Ever: Smell the Truth’s tips on what eat, smoke and watch in and around San Francisco on your days off. This weekend, we’re vibing on a new fantasy shlockbuster paired with indica-dominant hybrids, a $65 burger, The Black Crows, the biggest, best outdoor organic medical marijuana competition in the world, and some great outdoor closer to home.
Friday - The Hobbit - The Desolation of Smaug
The Lord of the Rings’ prequels continue with the second part of The Hobbit, featuring a butt-ton of cool computer animation, including the big old dragon Smaug, voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch. See it in IMAX 3D for maximum immersion.
All Weekend - Surf’s Up - SPARC, SF
Zone out in the Desolation of Smaug with Surf's Up an indica-dominant hybrid and cross of Pineapple Thai (yum) and Indica Fifty. At 21 percent THC, it “promotes fantastic relaxation for any day,” SPARC states.
Friday and Saturday - M.N.O. - Umami Burger - SoMa, SF
Many call it a symptom of tech bubble excess, but we call Umami Burger’s new, $65 M.N.O. delicious. Made with Bryan Flannery Wagyu Beef, port reduction and freshly shaved white truffle, the name stands for “Money is No Object”. Way to own it, Umami. Available on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in December at the King Street location.
Saturday, Dec. 14 - The Black Crows, SF
Bill Graham Civic Center in downtown San Francisco hosts the iconic rock band The Black Crows, who are touring behind their latest release Wiser for the Time a four-sided vinyl collection and double album digital download.
Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 14-15 - The Emerald Cup, Santa Rosa
The 10th annual Emerald Cup — billed as the world's only outdoor organic cannabis competition — goes down this weekend at the spacious Sonoma County Fairgrounds. Several thousand growers, activists, scientists, attorneys, patients and allies will gather at this “cannabis country fair” to celebrate the year’s harvest and enjoy live music, panels and an expo. Tickets at the door are $50 for a day and $90 for the weekend.
All Weekend - Sungrown Cherry AK - Harborside Health Center
Don’t want to drive all the way to frigid Santa Rosa? There’s few better places to sample this year’s outdoor crop than at Oakland’s Harborside Health Center, which is celebrating sun grown all season long. This Cherry AK looks and smells phenomenal, and packs a serious wallop.
