It’s the most wonderful time of the year for cannabis aficionados.
4/20 is nearly upon us, bringing with it a multitude of parties throughout the nation where attendants can partake in copious amounts of cannabis and celebrate one of the greatest natural herbs in existence.
Whether you’re in New York quelling your munchies at White Castle because it’s the best, or at Fatburger if you’re way out west, we’ve got you covered with all kinds of events to check out. Unfortunately, the stoner’s holiday falls on a Monday this year, meaning some celebrations will go down a few days earlier, or several days later in some cases.
With that in mind, here’s a list of the best things to do on 4/20.
April 17-19: Hempcon Cup. Spend the entire weekend leading up to 4/20 sampling the finest medical marijuana products found in better Bay Area dispensaries. Sprinkle in some performances from Baby Bash, Paul Wall, and hometown favorite Too $hort and you have the perfect 4/20 pre-party.
April 19: Doug Benson’s Countdown to 4/20. Enjoy a New year’s Eve-style countdown to the holiday with everyone’s favorite pot-smoking comedian, Doug Benson. The former High Times Stoner of the Year recipient returns with his annual countdown this year at Cobb’s Comedy Club in SF.
April 19: Oakland dispensary BLUM partners with legendary underground hip-hop crew Hieroglyphics for a performance Sunday at 4:20 p.m. featuring Tajai. Monday, BLUM offers free tacos, DJ Quest plus live music, 4.20 limited edition merchandise and limited edition concentrates and medicine.
April 20: Gathering at Hippie Hill. This unofficial party is undoubtedly one of the most popular 4/20 gatherings throughout the world. Take part in a Bay Area tradition when thousands of neo-hippies and Silicon Valley tech geeks converge for one big smoke session. The unofficial event lacks any organizer, so make sure to pick up your trash.
April 17-19: Coachella. Flying Lotus, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah, War on Drugs, Tyler The Creator, and ACDC are just a few of the acts that will draw heads to the polo grounds in the low desert of Indio for a sweltering three days of music, dancing, and people-watching in the run-up to April 20.
April 25: 420 Festival. This celebration comes a week late, but will be worth the wait for former ravers turned stoners. Dance the night away with a joint in hand while enjoying notable EDM DJ’s like Ace Ventura and Donald Glaude
April 18-20: High Times Cannabis Cup. What better way to celebrate 4/20 than going to the Super Bowl of cannabis events. Now that Colorado’s legal marijuana laws have been well-established, this year marks the first U.S. Cannabis Cup where no medical clearance is needed to smoke marijuana on-site. Attendants over 21 can enjoy as much Denver dank as they desire while taking in all the festivities.
April 20: Snoop Dogg’s Wellness Retreat. Cap off your Cannabis Cup weekend with concert performances from pot-loving emcee A$AP Rocky, noted legalization advocate 2 Chainz, and America’s most blunted rapper, Snoop Dogg.
April 20: 420 Fest. Seattle’s biggest celebration of cannabis comes a few months later this year at Hempfest, but official Hempfest members are invited to celebrate early at their annual 420 Fest. A trial membership for $15 pays the way for a day of music, joint rolling lessons, and even a huge chocolate fondue fountain to satisfy your munchies.
April 19-20: Reefer Madness Reunion Concert. Celebrate the immense progress of decriminalizing marijuana by revisiting a slice of anti-pot Americana. Join several cast members from the 2005 Showtime musical remake for a two-night reunion full of hot jazz, marijuana cigarettes, and pre-WWII-era debauchery.
April 17-19: Sweetwater 4/20 Fest. Although marijuana is yet to be legalized in Georgia, it’s not stopping anyone from lighting up their preferred special herbs at the Sweetwater 4/20 Fest. The annual three-day music festival is the South’s answer to Coachella, with headline performances from Snoop Dogg, 311, Thievery Corporation, and Primus.
April 20: Friday 20th Anniversary Director’s Cut Screening. Dating back to the 90s, Smokey and Craig have rivaled Cheech and Chong as one of the best stoner duos in cinematic history. Relive memories of getting high in South Central Los Angeles when the cult comedy classic Friday returns to theaters for a special one-night screening to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
